AGILITY

What is Dog Agility?

Dog agility is a fast and fun activity that both you and your dog can quickly become obsessed with. It involves your dog (and hopefully not you) negotiating a series of obstacles such as weaves, tunnels and jumps as the clock ticks by.

Who can do it?

Agility at RVDAC is open to everyone and every dog, from super speedy Border Collies, to German Shepherds and Yorkshire Terriers, any dog and any handler can can have success at it.

What do I need to start?

A dog helps! Seriously though, because the emphasis here at RVDAC is on building great teamwork, training safely and having a great time, all whilst aiming for you and your dog to be as successful as you can be, it is advised that your dog has a good understanding of basic obedience and is correctly socialised before trying agility. That way, the frustration levels go down and the safety and enjoyment goes up.

What age can my dog start?

To prevent any possible stress or damage to a pup's growing bones and joints, at RVDAC we begin training from the age of twelve months. Before that, it's all about creating those super foundations. Building good obedience and creating a great bond with your dog through play and work is essential and our puppy classes are the perfect place to start and get involved with the club.

What age can I start? - Young Handlers

At RVDAC we encourage children to get involved with the training. There is no better way of building the relationship between them and the dog than to train in agility. To that end, we have experienced young people to help train so it doesn't get intimidating. Plus, in Rother Valley they have a fantastic area to explore whilst your dog is taking a well-earned break from all the activity.

So what are you waiting for? Come down and give it a go. We promise you'll have a great time.
